Sharing in the Sensuality of Food
I have really begun to appreciate the aesthetic of farmer's markets, including the sights, smells and colors of the fresh organic fruit & produce (being a vegan, that is what i'm most drawn to). It's a total sensory experience, feeling the fresh air and being surrounded by good food. Other advantages to shopping at the farmer's market are connecting with the people who grow your food and developing an appreciation for the process.
Slow Food USA makes it their mission to educate people about the value of sitting down with friends & family and sharing a meal together (like old times, ya know?) Connecting with others through the process of preparing food and eating is something that has become less common in modern times, but has a lot of value. When we have people to share this with, it becomes a holistic experience of replenishing ourselves on the physical, psychological & energetic levels. My friend Aaron wrote an awesome blog related to this.

Hell yea! Farmer's Markets kick ass.
Our co-op is now getting much of our produce from our local Farmer's Market.
Kelli,
I am working towards becoming an organic farmer, so I found this blog very inspiring. I am always amazed at how many organic farms there are here in Ohio. The Ohio Ecological Food & Farm Association has a great website that lists all our organic/natural growers by county. http://www.oeffa.org/ I'm sure many states have sites like this. If anyone's state doesn't, maybe you should start one yourself. I would be glad to help. The only thing better than going to a farmers market for me, is going to the farm itself. As for the value of sharing meals together (like old times) I couldn't agree more. It seems that the social aspect of food cultivation/preparation/digestation has been relegated to agricultural areas. The growing “food movement” has profound effects on our lifestyles in general, and for that I am very grateful. We are truly blessed that we can make decisions about what to eat, and from where. I pray that all will know this freedom one day. Thank you for sharing this Kelli.
Thank you Kelli!!!! Yummmmmmmmm………………………… ;-)
two words: golden beets.
I get them from an organic co-op here in Cleevland. They're beets, but taste like corn. Grill them and add salt, pepper, and butter to taste. Or sauteed. Or raw.
I add organic compost to my next door neighbor's garden during the winter and early spring; in return, he shares his motherhonkin' ugly tomaters and zucchini with me.
It's a good system (I have my own garden……..of weeds ;-)
You are what you eat, breathe, read, speak, and believe.
Namaste'
